How to nail your summer job
So you’ve landed yourself a summer job working on a site. Congratulations!
While many of your friends may be out relaxing on the beach you’ll be taking huge steps towards your future.
Here are some tips for you to make the most of it:
This may seem like a given, but working hard is the number one way to impress anyone you’re on site with. Your workmates have done the hard yards for many years and aren’t looking for some kid to come in and slack off. Come in with a positive attitude, don’t complain about the work you’re given, ask for more work when you finish a job and get it done.
Be ready to learn
Accept the fact you are the most inexperienced person on the site. There is something you can learn from every single person you’ll be working with, so take the time to ask questions when you are given the opportunity. Observe, take notes and absorb as much as you can.
Be On Time
Don’t waste the time of the people who have given you such a good opportunity. If you’re expected to be on site by 6 am, be there 15 minutes early. It’s always better to be early than late and you’ll prove to the crew that you’re truly interested in the work.
Last but not least, don’t forget to enjoy your time. This is a great opportunity to get an insight into how life on the site truly works, and one you may not come across again. Aside from all the skills you’re going to learn, you’ll also meet some great people who will be willing to show you the ropes and potentially help you out in the future. Make the most of it!
