Executive Order Benefits Apprentices:
Apprentices are set to benefit from an Executive Order signed by President Donald Trump last Thursday.
The executive order will see an increase of $200 million to apprenticeship funding and increase the influence of the private sector over the design of various apprenticeship programs.
It is hoped this funding will create 5 million apprenticeships over the next five years and help cut the shortage of skilled workers in the USA.
Speaking in response to the President’s announcement, the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) praised the initiative, believing the funding will help drive significant change within the industry.
The move by President Trump comes after an announcement earlier this month about his desire to create at least 1 million new apprenticeship positions over the next two years.
While there are slight concerns about executive order not requiring new apprenticeship programs to be registered with the Department of Labor, the overall reaction towards President Trump’s announcement has been positive throughout the industry.
- Only 505,000 people held apprenticeships in the USA last year
- Trump is seeking to increase apprenticeship funding to $200 million and create 5 million apprenticeships over the next five years
- The $200 million is close to double the existing funding which exists
